🔶 Malaria: Cases have increased from 4.3 mill…ion in 2015 to 8.3 million in 2022. Antimalarial drug resistance threatens malaria eradication efforts. A key risk factor for the development of drug resistance is lack of awareness among patients that any course of antimalarial treatment must be completed.
🔶 Tuberculosis (TB): Drug-resistant tuberculosis threatens efforts to hashtag#EndTB. In 2023, 2.7% of new TB patients and 6.6% of those previously treated in the Region had multidrug resistant strains. Completing treatment is vital to stopping transmission and preventing resistant strains.
🔶 HIV: HIV drug resistance can jeopardize the efficacy of medicines used to treat HIV, resulting in an increase in treatment failures, morbidity and mortality.
