Basra, 27 November 2024 – UNAMI Human Rights Office, in collaboration with UNICEF, organized a roundtable discussion for members of the Basra Child Protection Working Group on promotion and protection of the rights of the child. The event brought together 22 participants (12 men and 10 women), including representatives from the police, the Directorate of Social Affairs, Directorate of Education, Directorate of Women Empowerment, Provincial Council, Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, and civil society. Participants were briefed on the human rights standards contained in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and discussed the recommendations made to Iraq by UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
