Basra, 23 November 2024 – UNAMI Human Rights Office facilitated a one-day interactive session on the legal guarantees and limitations of the right to freedom of expression. The event brought together 20 participants (14 men and six women), including representatives from judiciary, Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR), Iraqi Bar Association, media institutions and civil society organizations. At the dialogue, participants discussed national and international legal provisions related to freedom of expression as well as the court’s adjudication procedures related to criminal defamation cases.
